Privacy policy
The short version: our tools run on your device, we don’t use tracking cookies, and we only receive personal details you choose to send us. Last updated .
Our tools
The Dry Eye Profile, Blink Test, Eye Break Timer and Drop Decoder run entirely in your browser. Your answers, camera feed and settings are processed on your device and are not sent to us, unless you choose to email yourself your Dry Eye Profile plan (see below).
Camera. The Blink Test asks for camera access only when you start it. Video is analyzed frame by frame in your browser and immediately discarded. Nothing is recorded, stored or uploaded, and the camera is switched off when the test ends.
Saved on your device. Some tools save small pieces of information in your browser’s local storage, such as your last profile score, timer settings and your light or dark mode choice, so they’re there next time. This data stays on your device. You can clear it at any time by clearing your browser’s site data.
What we collect
We only receive personal information when you send it to us through a form:
- Newsletter: your email address.
- Emailing your Dry Eye Profile plan: your email address and, while the email is being written, your profile type, symptom score and a coded version of your answers, which becomes the link that reopens your results. We use those only to create that one email and don’t keep them. We keep only your email address and whether you asked for the newsletter.
- Finding a specialist: the details you enter, such as your email, ZIP code, situation, interests, insurance type and, if you’ve taken it, your profile summary.
- Clinic applications and emails: whatever you choose to include.
We also receive the page you submitted a form from and your approximate country, to help prevent spam and understand demand.
How we use it
We use your information only for the purpose you gave it: to send the newsletter, to email your plan, to introduce you to a clinic when you’ve asked us to, or to reply to you. We don’t sell or rent your information to advertisers, data brokers or anyone else.
Clinic introductions. If you request a specialist and give consent, we first email you to say which clinic we plan to introduce you to, then share the details you entered with that one partner clinic so it can contact you. Partner clinics pay Symvana a flat monthly fee to be in our network, so under some state privacy laws this sharing may count as a “sale” of personal information. It only ever happens at your request, and you can withdraw consent at any time by emailing us. We don’t currently accept specialist requests from Washington or Nevada.
Health information
Some of what you might send us, such as your dry eye situation or treatment interests, is health information. We collect it only when you submit the specialist form, use it only to arrange the introduction you asked for, and never use it for advertising. Symvana doesn’t use advertising pixels or tracking tags from social media or ad networks.
Service providers
Symvana is hosted on Cloudflare, which processes technical data such as IP addresses to deliver and protect the site. Form submissions are stored securely with Cloudflare. We use an email service provider to send emails and a newsletter service to manage subscriptions. These providers only process data on our behalf.
Analytics. We may use Cloudflare Web Analytics, which counts visits without cookies and without tracking you across other sites.
Affiliate links. When you follow a product link to a retailer such as Amazon, that retailer’s own privacy policy and cookies apply on their site.
Cookies
Symvana itself doesn’t set advertising or tracking cookies. Our hosting provider may set strictly necessary cookies for security.
Your choices and rights
You can unsubscribe from emails at any time using the link in each email. To see, correct or delete the information you’ve sent us, email hello@symvana.com and we’ll respond within 30 days. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws such as the GDPR or state privacy laws in the US, and we’ll honor them.
How long we keep it
We keep newsletter subscriptions until you unsubscribe, and specialist requests and other messages for as long as needed to handle them, up to two years, unless you ask us to delete them sooner.
Children
Symvana is intended for adults. We don’t knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
Changes
If we change this policy, we’ll update the date at the top. Significant changes will be highlighted on this page.
